Why You Should Ask for a Complete Vehicle Inspection Report

Car Advice · Victor the Car Guy

A short repair estimate can leave you with a big question: is this everything the shop found, or just the work being recommended today? Asking for a complete vehicle inspection report helps you understand the difference.

In the video below, Victor the Car Guy shares a customer story and explains why drivers should ask to see all the findings before deciding which repairs to approve.

A repair recommendation may not tell the whole story

Victor describes a customer whose car had been serviced by a dealership since it was new. After being shown oil leaks and worn ball joints, the customer wondered why those concerns had not been mentioned before.

The video also uses a hypothetical example: a technician identifies ten concerns, four recommendations reach the service advisor, and only two are presented to the customer. Victor uses that example to discuss how sales incentives or assumptions about a customer’s budget can influence a conversation. It is an illustration, not proof of what happened at a particular dealership.

Make an informed repair decision

Knowing about a concern does not mean approving every repair at once. A complete report gives you a basis for asking questions, setting priorities, and planning your budget. If something is unclear, ask for clarification before authorizing the work.

The takeaway from Victor’s video is simple: your repair decisions should start with a clear picture of what the inspection found.
